A HEALTHY MIND AND A HEALTHY BODY

"The University's first Campus Scamper was a great success on March 28, when 79 people jogged to achieve fitness.  The Medical Officer, Dr. R. Burke, and his Secretary Mrs. J. O'Neill, set an example by running.  The Starter was the President of University Athletic Club (Professor G. Tanner) and the President of Newcastle Amateur Athletic Association (Mr. S. Tapner) presented the awards.  The course was from the Auchmuty Sports Centre to the Great Hall and "home" again - roundabout, and approximately four miles.  The first woman to finish was Belinda Stevens.  Stan Barwick was the first home and the first man to finish.   S. Tailayebaski, T. Wall and L. Wibberley. constituting Chemical Engineering A, was the winner of the Teams Section.  It is hoped to conduct the next Campus Scamper in two divisions.  One division will be designed for members of the university who jog to keep fit - they will be directed to negotiate the Fitness Trail course. The second will be open to experienced athletes - they will run along the full course which was used on March 28."
